5 Things You Need to Know About DriveNow in Berlin
DriveNow is BMW Group’s free-floating carsharing service, providing you with a wide variety of different models. From the cool Mini Coupé to the innovative i3 electric car, you’ll find the right vehicle for any kind of situation. DriveNow in Berlin is one of the providers that offer the biggest car fleet, so you’ll find a car pretty much anywhere around the city, making it quite easy to be spontaneous when you need it.
In case you can’t find a car around you, you can always try out the Free2Move app: you’ll be able to check out the different car, scooter and bike sharing providers on one map.
Where can you use DriveNow?
Although DriveNow is most present in Berlin, you can also access their services in more than 15 cities around Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, UK, Finland, and Portugal. What’s great about this is that once your account is validated, you’ll be able to drive in any of those cities!
How do you register?
Before using DriveNow you’ll need to register online to their service and wait for your account to be validated. You’ll be asked to fill up the form with your personal information and complete an identity check, so have your driving license ready!
Please note that you need to be at least 21 years old and have a driver’s license valid for a year (you’ll find all the information in the terms & conditions). Soon after you’re done with the registration process, you’ll be receiving an email confirming that your account is active and later on, you’ll receive a customer card by post.
There are plenty of other carsharing providers in Berlin and with Free2Move, not only will you have access to all them, but you’ll also be able to sign up to them with just ONE registration. So you won’t need to go through the process multiple times! Nice right?
Getting started with DriveNow
Find a car, book and drive
Once you download DriveNow and connect your account, you’re ready to go! You can either open your Free2Move app or your DriveNow app to find the closest car near you.
The next step is to choose & book a car: you’ll get 15 minutes of free reservation. If you need it, you can also reserve the car you want for up to 8 hours – at a cost of 10 cents per minute.
When you’re done with your booking, park your car in DriveNow’s business zone and end your ride.

You might have noticed on the map that both Schönefeld and Tegel Airports are included in the business areas of DriveNow. You can indeed drive and drop DriveNow’s cars to & from both airport. How much does it cost to use DriveNow in Berlin?
Pay by the minute
When you register, you’ll have to pay a one time fee of 29 €. After that, you’ll pay as you go, by the minute. The prices depend on the type of car you’re driving and start at 33ct/min, 9 €/hour or 80 €/day.
DriveNow has one of the biggest fleets in Berlin but it’s definitely not the cheapest! Here you’ll find a nice comparison of the different carsharing options in Berlin.
If a car runs out of fuel, you’ll find a credit card in the car that you can use for filling up the tank. DriveNow assumes all fuel charges.
You won’t need to pay to park (as long as you drop the car in a public parking spot within the business zone shown above).
Car taxes and insurance are both already included in the price you pay per consumption.
